Floor Kicks - Mat Based Training *No Sword

Welcome to today's mat-based class focused on strengthening your hips and legs to power up your standing kicks and leg movements in your WeaponUp flows. This class is performed entirely without a sword.

The class includes:
  • Warm-up: Begin in tabletop position with spinal twists and hip flexor stretches in a floor lunge.
  • Three-Point Sideline Kicking Move: This involves an extension forward, straight up, and touching back with the toe while lying on your side.
  • Rainbow Arcs: From a modified tabletop position, extend your leg out to the side and create a full, high arc with your toes.
  • Fire Hydrants: Lift your bent knee up to a 90-degree angle with your hips, returning it back to the floor.
  • Fuller Kicks: Extend back and up with a pointed toe, starting from the fire hydrant position.
  • Plate Lifts: With the bottom of your foot parallel to the floor, extend through the hip flexors by lifting your leg straight up and down, followed by a pulse.
  • Final Roundhouse Kick: From the "plate" position, kick forward so you can see your toe, then bring it back and up.

We'll work through these strengthening movements on both the right and left sides. Remember to keep a neutral spine and engage your core throughout the class. Keep practicing these floor movements, and over time, you will be able to give more power to your standing kicks.
