Sabina Storberg

Sabina Storberg

Sabina is a martial artist and yoga teacher with a unique journey that has taken her from the mountains of China, where she studied Kung Fu in a Shaolin and Wudang Tai Chi academy for over two years, to the mountains of Rishikesh, India, where she became a certified Ashtanga Vinyasa teacher (RYT200). Sabina further expanded her yoga practice in Mallorca, Spain, earning her RYT500 as a multi-style yoga teacher. Over the past twelve years she has been combining these disciplines culminating in the creation of the practice entitled WeaponUP. This is where she brings together kung fu, yoga, dance and intuitive movement to the modern fitness experience.

Ellie Barbeau

Ellie Barbeau

Ellie has a background as a massage therapist and instructor for both yoga and group fitness classes. With over a decade of experience in wellness and bodywork, she’s passionate about exploring creative ways to move and finding that beautiful balance between body and mind. When Ellie discovered WeaponUP, it was love at first sword flower—despite never having held a sword before. The moment she mastered that first outside flower, something powerful unlocked within her— a peaceful inner strength she hadn’t realized was there. She was instantly drawn to how refreshing and empowering the WeaponUp practice felt, offering a most fulfilling way for her to challenge herself, grow, and connect more deeply with her inner and outer strength both on and off the mat. She’s thrilled to continue her journey and practice alongside the inspiring WeaponUP community.

Yasmine Yokoyama-Muhammad

Yasmine Yokoyama-Muhammad

Yasmine began her WeaponUp journey as a member, having never held a sword before. From her very first class, she instantly fell in love with the practice and felt empowered by the beautiful balance of grace, strength, and intentional movement that WeaponUp embodies. Born and raised in Japan, Yasmine grew up in a culture where women are often seen as soft, quiet, or submissive. While she has always embraced the beauty of softness, she struggled with confidence and fully expressing her strength. WeaponUp became a transformative space where she was able to step out of her shell, reconnect with her body, and discover a powerful inner presence she hadn’t realized was there. Inspired by her journey, Yasmine is passionate about helping women feel confident through intentional and expressive movement. Having gone from beginner to instructor herself, she understands the courage it takes to step outside of comfort zones and is honored to share graceful, empowering flows that celebrate both softness and strength. She looks forward to continuing to grow, inspire, and move with intention alongside the WeaponUp community.

What students are saying

I'm new to WeaponUp, I never wielded a sword before. I'm not into yoga either but I know it's good for my body. One day I saw @theWeaponUp on Instagram and was so stunned with how beautiful and graceful it is. I immediately thought "oh my God, I look for the right workout no more". Even though I wasn't sure of my skills and I don't even have a sword I decided to give it a chance. I like how it feels when I start with 0 sword swinging skill and after a few days of practice I could see results and be proud of my little success. It almost feels like dancing! To me WeaponUp is the only type of yoga that I truly like! ❤️

I’m Carmen and I started WeaponUP in June of 2024 and I’ve been completely hooked on it since then. I’ve never done any spinning let alone with a sword and my flexibility was practically nonexistent. I never imagined that I would be spinning a sword and doing splits, but I’m doing it and feeling like I’m a character from Demon Slayer! I love WeaponUP because I adore Sabina’s teaching approach. She great at simplifying the practice and is patient when explaining concepts. I haven’t joined a live class yet because I’m shy, but she uploads all her classes to the studio so everyone can keep up. Furthermore, she is genuine, hilarious, and inspiring. I can confidently say that practicing WeaponUP has been the highlight of my year. Can’t wait to see what else is in store for us & super excited to see the community grow.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE WeaponUP! It has been such a life changer. I had never held a sword before starting WeaponUP and now getting on the mat with my sword is one of the best parts of my day. It’s so empowering, I feel so badass, and it makes me feel so grounded and focused. It has been such a refreshing way to learn about myself and how to challenge myself. And let’s be real, I feel like one of the main characters in one of my fantasy books! Sabina is such a great instructor! She sets such a good pace, she’s super creative with her flows, and always makes sure that you have the basics down so that you can build upon your flows and flowers and keep learning new things.

Hi, I'm Julia and I LOVE WeaponUp! As a huge fantasy nerd, being able to work with swords is a dream. Whenever I step on the mat, I feel like I'm training right next to my favorite book characters. Although I won't be joining any quests anytime soon, through WeaponUP, I've been able to explore completely new sides of myself and do things I never thought I would be able to. It's so empowering, you can't help but feel more confident and strong in who you are. I was a little nervous at first, but Sabina is such an incredible instructor and makes sure everything is shown or explained in multiple ways. Whether I'm doing a live class or watching a past class, I never feel left behind. One of the things I love most about WeaponUP is how much you can make it your own. There are so many ways to feel the flow and truly have fun with it. So grab a sword and I'll see you on the mat!

By far, the biggest contributor to my training growth in 2024 has been WeaponUP! The most incredible practice, combining grace with power, strength with balance, and everything a lover of sword fighting and storytelling like myself can ask for! Thank you so much for everything I've learned. Time to continue to practice in 2025.

Frequently asked questions

Is WeaponUp online only?

While we occasionally host or attend in-person events, WeaponUp is currently primarily an online studio.

How often are new classes added to the studio?

New content is added to the WeaponUp studio regularly. This includes new classes, structured series, special programs, and occasional live sessions or events. We continue to expand the library with fresh flows, drills, and themed series while also hosting live or community-based experiences throughout the year. Members can expect an evolving studio that grows with the practice — offering both consistency and new inspiration over time. Our focus is on quality, progression, and longevity, so content is released intentionally to support real skill-building and sustainable practice.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes — you can cancel your membership at any time. There are no long-term commitments, and you’ll continue to have access through the end of your current billing period.

Can I do WeaponUp if I'm not in the U.S.?

Yes — WeaponUp membership is available globally, and you can practice from anywhere in the world with access to our full online studio. At this time, we only ship swords within the United States. However, we’ve made it easy for our international members to get started. We have a detailed blog on our website that outlines exact sword specifications and provides guidance on where to purchase a suitable straight sword in your region. Wherever you’re practicing from, WeaponUp remains the same — structured instruction, adaptable movement, and a global community moving together.

Do you ship swords outside of the US?

While we don't currently ship our swords outside of the US, we did write a blog article to help non-US WeaponUp members find suitable swords in their respective regions: https://weaponup.com/blog/where-to-get-a-sword-for-your-weaponup-sword-yoga-practice

Do I need a sword to begin?

No you do not. While a traditional straight sword is recommended, any similar-length object, like a stick or even an umbrella, can be effective. The focus is on the movement and technique.

How much does the sword weigh?

Our WeaponUp straight sword is intentionally lightweight, weighing approximately 1–1.5 lbs (450–680 g). This weight allows you to move with control, grace, and endurance while still building strength, coordination, and awareness through repetition.

Why is the sword flexible?

The sword is semi-flexible by design. This flexibility absorbs impact, reduces strain on the wrists and shoulders, and allows for smooth, flowing movements. A rigid blade would be unsafe and fatiguing for continuous practice — flexibility makes the sword safer, quieter, and more forgiving, especially for beginners.

What is the sword made of?

The blade is made from spring steel, a durable metal designed to flex and return to its original shape without bending permanently. The handle is lightweight and balanced to support long practice sessions, and the sword has been traditionally built specifically for tai chi, wushu, and movement-based training — not combat or cutting.

How much space do I need?

Ideally, we recommend a space with about 8-foot ceilings and the area of two yoga mats placed side-by-side, forming a small square. This gives you enough room to move comfortably and explore the full range of sword motions. That said, WeaponUp can always be modified for smaller spaces. Many of our members practice in apartments, bedrooms, or shared living areas. We simply encourage you to clear a comfortable area, be mindful of your surroundings, and move at a pace that feels safe and grounded for you. Comfort and awareness matter more than perfection — if you have space to move and breathe, you have space to practice. ⚔️

Is WeaponUp suitable for beginners?

Absolutely! WeaponUp is designed for individuals at all levels of fitness and experience. We offer a range of classes from beginner to advanced, ensuring everyone can find a comfortable starting point and progress at their own pace.

Do you offer modifications for different needs or concerns?

Before starting any new physical regimen, we always recommend consulting with your physician, especially if you have injuries, are pregnant, or are returning to movement after time away. WeaponUp is designed with the belief that the practice should fit your body — not the other way around. Every movement can be adapted to support different levels of strength, mobility, balance, and experience. We offer very beginner-friendly series, including our Ten Days to Sword Mastery, which teaches the foundations of sword handling, posture, and movement step by step. From there, flows can always be personally modified — whether that means reducing range of motion, slowing the pace, practicing seated or standing, or focusing on specific skills — while still retaining the integrity and technique of the sword practice. Our goal is to help you move with confidence, safety, and ownership of your body, no matter where you’re starting from.

I’d like to become a teacher — how can I get certified?

Thank you so much for your interest in teaching WeaponUp — it truly means a lot to us. Our WeaponUp Teacher Training & Certification Program is currently in development, and we’re planning to announce full details later this year. The program is being built thoughtfully to ensure high standards, strong foundations, and alignment with the integrity of the practice. If you’d like to be the first to know when certification opens, please reach out to hello@weaponup.com to join the waitlist. We’re excited to grow this next chapter with intentional, passionate teachers from our community.
