Double Sword Day 6: Upper Body Movement
with Sabina Storberg
from Mastering the Double Sword
Welcome to this double sword upper body movement session! In this video, we explore ways to move the upper body during double sword flows when not performing flowers that require both hands. We will focus on three distinct drills to add variety and fluidity to your practice. • What You’ll Learn: You will learn three different mini drills specifically for upper body movement with double swords. These include inward-to-outward palm strikes, a side-to-side lifting movement, and an overhead flower combined with a strike. • The Foundation: These movements are designed to fill the space in your flow when your hands are not occupied by a combined flower. By mastering these basic transitions, you can enhance the overall aesthetic and control of your double sword techniques. • What to Expect: We will begin with 10 repetitions of the inward-to-outward strike, followed by 10 more with the left sword leading. Next, we will perform 20 repetitions of a side-to-side lifting motion. Finally, we will conclude with 10 repetitions of the overhead flower and strike drill. • Pro Tip: Pay close attention to your palm positioning during the first drill; start with palms facing down before opening outward. For the second drill, ensure your swords face each other as you transition from one side to the other. Grab your swords and let's improve your upper body flow together!
