Welcome to Sword Mastery Basics – Deluxe Edition.
This is the expanded and refined evolution of our original Ten Days to Sword Mastery, created as the clearest and most complete starting point if you’ve never held a sword before—or if you want to truly understand what you’re practicing.
In this 15-day series, we study the foundational mechanics of the Chinese straight sword (jian) as they are traditionally approached in kung fu and tai chi. These are not new or invented movements. Rather, this program offers a structured framework for understanding classical straight sword basics and how they translate into the WeaponUp practice.
We begin on day one with foundational stances, grips, posture, and alignment. As the days progress, you’ll learn essential sword pathways and techniques—including the full family of flowers used throughout WeaponUp, as well as signature elements like the snake charmer and the iconic whoosh sound. By day fifteen, you’ll be working with tempo and moving with clarity, control, and grace.
This series is about precision before expression. It gives you the technical literacy of the jian so that, as you move deeper into WeaponUp classes, the sword feels like a natural extension of your body rather than a prop in your hand.
Meet us on the mat. This is where the basics of sword mastery begin.

I would recommend making THIS series the default for beginners. I started a little over ten days ago with the original "10 Days to Sword Mastery" because that's what had been auto-added to my home screen, so I thought that's where I should begin. I was SO FRUSTRATED because it's frankly not very good instruction (I say this as a former flow arts instructor). I was ready to demand my money back, but I started poking around and found this series, which just on video one seems to have a better understanding of how to instruct via video (ie making sure all of you is in frame). I glimpsed ahead at the next video and saw that you take the time to explain how to grip the sword, which gives me great hope for the rest of it. Please make THIS the default series so you don't lose participants before they really get into it!
