10-Minute Sculpt Drills

Welcome to today's sculpt class! We are going to focus on our shoulders and legs with a few repetitive drills.

Here is a look at what we'll be doing:
  • Reverse and Outside Flower Combination: Starting in a wide stance, you will perform a reverse outside flower as you lift the sword up, and an outside flower as you bring it back down. We will do this crisp, two-flower movement  times on each side to work those shoulders.
  • Lunges with Overhead Sword: Next, we will warm up the legs! You'll lunge down, bringing the sword overhead, and repeat this 10 times on each side.
  • Six-Position Sword Drill: This fun drill involves moving the sword to six different places: out to the left side low, overhead, out to the right side low, overhead, straight out in front mid-range, and to the middle on the other side. We'll complete this full range of movements 10 times.
  • Two-Handed Overhead Cross: With the sword in both hands, you will bring it overhead to the left side, overhead to the right, perform a reverse diagonal cross in front, and then open both arms out. We'll do this 10 times.
  • Single-Handed Striking Movement: Using the left hand, you will strike out to the right, back out to the left, bring the sword up, and then open your arms wide. We'll repeat this 10 times.
  • Cauldron Stir Integration: This move integrates the "cauldron stir." It involves a reverse flower, stirring the cauldron in front, completing a circle overhead, striking out to one side, out to the other side, and then shifting to strike forward. We'll do this 10 times on each side.
  • Final Drill—Overhead Flowers: To finish the class and get your heart rate up, we will do a final drill of overhead flowers on either side, 10 times on each side.

This is only my 4th day in the Weapon Up program, and this is by far my favorite drill!
