DB - Grip Change to Sword Behind Hand

With Sabina Storberg

From Drills and Basics

Join Sabina for this short "Drills and Basics" class focused on a new skill: bringing the sword behind your hand. This technique involves a grip change, starting with a regular hold and ending with the sword held behind you.

What you will learn:
  • How to bring the tip of the sword down and turn it outwards.
  • How to open up between your index and middle fingers and bring the bottom of the sword in between.
  • How to twist the sword and bring it in, then lift outwards.
  • The entire movement is described as almost like a double outside flower.
  • The ending grip has the index finger in front, three fingers grabbing the sword, and the thumb close to the top.

You will practice this challenging move multiple times on both the right and left sides to add grace to your flows.

I would love to see a close up of the hand, and several slow motion repeats with step by step cues before doing the 10 full speed repetitions. Its very difficult to pick apart the movement as a brand new beginner.

A close-up of the slow explanation here would be super helpful!!
